Mt. Baker ski area has an abundance of readily accessed backcountry areas, almost all visible from the parking lot. Here, conflict has occurred repeatedly over safe travel practices. In addition, snowshoers and skiers often share the same uptracks, resulting in tough skinning in heavily trafficked zones. We want to:
Try to funnel uphill traffic into safer travel routes via signage and education. Currently, this is happening on an individual and illegal basis.
